MLB The Show 26 Draft Strategy U4GM Guide for Franchise Mode

If you play Franchise Mode long enough, you start seeing the same draft mistakes over and over. People chase names, ignore the board, and then wonder why their class feels flat. A smarter setup helps a ton, and a little spend on MLB The Show 26 stubs can make it easier to keep your scouting staff in the right places without wrecking the rest of your plan.

Build The Scout Team Around Roles

The first thing I look at is fit, not price. Discovery scouts need Discovery, full stop. For hitters, I want crazy Efficiency, because that lets you get through more names before the draft board gets noisy. Pitching scouts are a bit different. I lean hard on the Pitcher rating and stop worrying about the flashy stuff.

That's where a lot of users go sideways. They grab the highest-rated scout and call it good, but that usually just burns time. If your staff is specialized, you'll see cleaner reports earlier. That means less guessing, fewer wasted visits, and way more chances to spot the guys everyone else misses.

Early Season Discovery Matters

1. Run two Discovery scouts first.

2. Keep them on for four weeks.

3. Delay deep scouting a bit.

Reality check: Most bad drafts happen because people lock in too early and fall for one shiny rating.

What A Real Superstar Looks Like

Signal What It Usually Means
99 potential with balanced grades Rare top-end upside
77 to 82 max overall Strong ceiling with room
Big gap between OVR and POT Hidden growth room

When I'm scanning the class, I care more about the shape of the report than one wild number. A guy with 99 Speed but weak support stats can trick you. Same with a hitter who pops 99 Contact and nothing else. The safer bet is usually the prospect who looks solid across the board, even if he's not loud about it.

Questions Players Keep Asking

Someone asked me if age really changes how hard you should chase a prospect.

Yep. I'd rather take an 18-year-old with a messy report than an older guy who's already peaked.

Keep It Simple On Draft Day

In the early rounds, I take bats first unless the class is ugly. Good hitters are harder to find later, and they usually carry more long-term value. If the board is thin, don't panic. Relievers and closers can still be sneaky wins, and they're often easier to stash than people think.

What Usually Pays Off

The best part of this whole approach is how repeatable it feels once you get the rhythm. You stop chasing hype. You start trusting gaps, age, and the way a report actually reads. That's how you turn average drafts into stacked ones, year after year, and if you're working through the season with a tight budget, the MLB The Show 26 marketplace can help you keep the whole plan moving without breaking your flow.
